Getting ready for the next race

Forest Hill was my first attempt to buid a track with structures, close to 1:64, to suit AFX style cars. We all know that h0 is not a clearly defined scale. Sizes range from 1:87 to 1:64. Therefore the decision was made to work close to 1:64.

Finishing straight with Paddock and Tower

Because I had never seen a slot car track with scenery in that scale It was important to find out how much space was needed. Therefore a smaller layout was chosen. The table consists off there segments 80cm x 90cm (31.4inch x 35.4inch). The total length comes to 240cm (94.2inch).

Forest Hill - A small layout with many options

Grandstands, Pits or Paddock with an adjoining tower were designed. Here the idea was to make the elements for each structure that could be combined differently to fit various layouts. The Hotel de la Source was a contribution to Spa-Francorchamp, because that track was an important influence for the racetrack layout.

The Track is made off polystyrene and CNC routed. It features a racing line. Track width was chosen to represent a road course and a natural feeling. Most h0 appear to narrow, especially when guardrails are installed.

The result was promising and I was surprised that even on the small layout the overall appearance was very close to a scale correct layout. These days Forest Hill serves mainly as a location to shoot my custom builds. Even though it is a rather small layout the course provides enough challenges for interesting racing.

In the beginning I was hoping to spark some interest in slot car racetracks with extended scenery. To me the whole spirit of the time comes alive.

Next Generation Slot Car Racetrack

REIMS:64 is the latest slot car race track project. I have been working on the layout for over six years. This one will be more detailed. It depicts on a former racetrack in France - Circuit Reims-Gueux.
